Rabid Love – 2013

You may have heard of a horror short film by the title of ‘Rabid Love’, which surfaced about a year ago from the young company Rogue Taurus Productions. On March 1st of this year, the feature length version under the same title will be coming at you, the first feature film from Rogue Taurus and director Paul J. Porter who also wrote the script based on a story by Hayley Derryberry. ‘Rabid Love’ is an homage to and the attempt to rejuvenate the classic horror films of the 1980s. The film was shot in the summer of 2012 in Hodgeman County, Kansas. Come inside for the short and more info about ‘Rabid Love’.

The story is set in the summer of 1984 and follows Heather Ross and her group of friends just after their graduation from college. The gang heads out for one last weekend together at a cabin in the woods where, unknown to Heather, her boyfriend plans to propose.
They are treated to rumors of a wild bear that is supposedly killing hikers in the woods but do not heed the warnings of the local townspeople. Love triangles bloom as the campers attempt to follow their own individual desires and the appearance of a strange hunter in the woods complicates things. As things get bloody, people start to disappear and die, the weekend of fun turns into a fight for survival against the strange hunter, nature itself, and an unknown beast lurking in the shadows.

Heather is forced to fight for her own survival and find out who is responsible for the deaths of her friends. Is it the jerk, Adam? Her own boyfriend? The sultry Summer? The strange Hunter? Or someone – or something – else?
‘Rabid Love’ is not only set in 1984, it is an attempt to  rejuvenate of the classic horror films of that era. Paul J. Porter, director and author of ‘Rabid Love’, who will deliver his feature debut with the film, tells us that movies like ‘An American Werewolf in London’, ‘Jaws’, ‘The Howling’, and ‘Friday the 13th’ were among the first horror films he ever saw and they left a lasting impression on him.

Since the start of his film career, Paul has won several awards among others with ‘MyShadow’ (Best Acting, Audience Award, and Best Writing nomination at the 2011 48 Hour Film Project Los Angeles), ‘Blüm’ (Best use of Genre at the 2011 National Film Challenge), and a semifinalist script at the 2010 Slamdance Screenplay Competition for his feature script ‘Dark Desert’, a supernatural thriller that he plans to be his second feature film. The music video that Paul shot for George Hartline and the Harmless Doves single ‘Down to the River’ won Best Music Video at the 2012 Indie Spirit Awards.
‘Rabid Love’ is an independent no-budget film and, in a way, a period piece, starring Hayley Derryberry, who also produces, as Heather Ross, Jessica Sonneborn as Julie Allen, Brandon Stacy as the hunter, Alexandra Boylan as Kristen and many more.
