We brought you the announcement of ‘Haunted Ship’, a feature horror film based on the short ‘Infested Ship’ from director and author Jack Skyyler, back in April. Jack just checked in with an incredible update: Get ready for twice the scares as not one but two feature horror films will be shot on board the U.S.S. Salem. Watch the original short and get all the facts right here!
‘Infested Ship’ is a horror short created by Dear Skyyler Productions’ Jack Skyyler, Alex Zinzopoulos, and Joel Brook, filmed aboard the legendary World War II battleship U.S.S. Salem which is today located in Quincy, Massachusetts. Infested Ship was shot aboard the U.S.S. Salem, a U.S. heavy gun cruiser decommissioned in 1959 and the world’s largest all-gun-heavy-cruiser, now located in Quincy Massachusetts. Following the rumors of a haunting aboard the U.S.S. Salem, four friends break into the ship to check it out. Once they are inside they encounter a coven of undead at feeding time. Trapped on board, the friends struggle to survive until dawn and keep what they can of their sanity. Watch the complete short below.
Shortly after completion and the successful premiere of the short, Dear Skyyler Productions and the U.S.S. Salem laid plans for the feature film we told you about in April: ‘Haunted Ship’. Glynn Praesel turned out to be the key to realising those plans. Glynn had co-stared alongside Jack Skyyler and Joel Brook’s previous award-winning feature film ‘Hitting the Wall’ and when he heard about ‘Haunted Ship’, he immediately put Jack and Joel in touch with Joe Charbanic, the director of ‘The Watcher’. Joe was invited to see the legendary battleship first hand and immediately fell in love with the project. He immediately agreed to produce not only ‘Haunted Ship’, but two similarly themed feature films, thus ‘Infested Ship’ grew from a 10 minute short into a two picture deal. To top it all off, several Asian production companies have expressed interest of adapting the story and producing an additional film for their respective market.
Dear Skyyler Productions is is currently in development/pre-production for both features both with Joe Charbanic working as the producer. ‘Haunted Ship’ will be realised as planned, the title of the second film will be ‘Night Aboard the Salem’.
Although both films will be shot on the same location, ‘Night aboard the Salem’ is ditinctly different form ‘Haunted Ship’: A group of paranormal investigators become trapped in the U.S.S. Salem. Inside the Salem, the worlds of ghosts and men mesh haphazardly together in a net that threatens to pull them down with it. As the origins of both the ghosts and the members of their party become clear the group begins to turn on each other; first it’s a fight for survival and finally sanity.
