Whatever it is you’re planning for May 5, make sure there is plenty of time left in your schedule to visit your local comic book store – or even several of them – because its Free Comic Book Day nationwide!
The 1st Saturday in May is traditionally reserved for the annual Free Comic Book Day al across the country and more and more stores are celebrating it with free comic book giveaways, special deals, artist appearances and creator signings. There will also be special and exclusive editions from several publishers up for grabs for this special day.
Free Comic Book Day could be the biggest one yet since the first FCBD was held back in 2002. The number of shops participating in 2012 is up by 300 from previous year and last we heard shops have ordered 3.5 million copies to give away.
But its not only about the freebies, although some of them are really cool including several horror themed special editions. While you are there, browse the selection and consider buying some stuff and supporting their business. Too many comic book shops have closed their doors recently and we don’t want any more of them to disappear. Even if you’re not into comics (yet), check out a store near you, because some are seriously cool hangouts. Make sure to be there early, because stores will run out of the free comics early.
