Fresh from successful film festival screenings in its home country and abroad, Australian horror feature ‘Throwback’ will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in February. Monster Pictures will be releasing the film in the UK on February 9, followed by the release in Australia on February 18. Come on inside for details and the official trailer.
‘Throwback’ follows two treasure hunters, a female park ranger and an unhinged ex-cop as they encounter a Yowie, Australia’s answer to Bigfoot, in the remote jungles of Far North Queensland. The film stars Cairns actors Shawn Brack, Anthony Ring and Melanie Serafin, plus Vernon Wells from Mad Max 2 and Commando.
Described by writer and director Travis Bain as a modern-day update on classic 1970s Bigfoot films, the indie feature had its world premiere at the Bram Stoker International Film Festival in 2013 and has since screened at nine other film festivals in the US and Australia, earning rave reviews and winning awards such as Best Foreign Feature (Famous Monsters Film Festival, USA) and Best Feature (Tri-Cities International Fantastic Film Festival, USA).
Travis told us he is thrilled that ‘Throwback’ will now be available to genre fans who were unable to see it until now. “Not everyone lives near a film festival, so it’s great that ‘Throwback’ can now reach an even wider audience through home video,” he added.
‘Throwback’ will be presented in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio and feature bonus materials such as a commentary, behind-the-scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, a gag reel, an alternative ending and more. Releases in New Zealand, the US and other territories are planned for later in 2015. Bain is currently developing his next feature, a science-fiction thriller inspired by the works of cult US horror writer H.P. Lovecraft.
