French director and author Gautier Cazenave is hard at work preparing his directorial feature debut ‘Sherlock Holmes vs. Frankenstein’, slated for release some time in 2013. We have the first details for you on this intriguing mashup story of two literary figures, which might just become a worthy clash of icons.
Not many details have been released about ‘Sherlock Holmes vs Frankenstein’, the feature film debut of French director Gautier Cazenave. What we do know are two members of the cast that have been announced: The Film star Hammer Horror actor Shane Briant (Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell) and real-life Baron Clement von Franckenstein as, you guessed it, Baron Karl von Frankenstein.
For those of you who smell a marketing stunt here, we can assure you, Mr. von Franckenstein is real, and it is his real name. Clement George Freiherr von und zu Franckenstein, which is his full birth name, is a British actor who accumulated over 100 credits to his name since starting his professional acting career back in the early 1970s. He is probably also the only actor who gets an additional line in end credits without an argument. No fancy stage name, no joke, the man is real.

It is the year 1898. Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson travel to Germany to investigate a strange case in the village of Darmstadt. Who is the mysterious figure who digs up corpses and steals their limbs? Could these events be related to the nearby presence of Castle Frankenstein, whose name is closely associated to Mary Shelley’s horror novel? Everyone is a suspect…
Filming will take place in Belgium.
